Bio-Germanium was approved as a new functional ingredient for immune function enhancement by Korea FDA in 2007 as well as by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour in 2009 and Welfare based on extensive safety and efficacy studies.
Bio-Germanium received the New Dietary Ingredient Notification by the U.S. FDA in 2010.
Before the sales and distribution of a new dietary ingredient in the United States, the U.S. FDA requires a New Dietary Ingredient (NDI) Notification, which contains information establishing safety of the new dietary ingredient, and conducts
in-depth investigation for 75 days with its committee experts to determine the safety of new ingredient. Among germanium products, Bio-Germanium is the first and only product that obtained the New Dietary Ingredient notification from the U.S. FDA. |

These products use chemical process to convert the inorganic germanium into an organic one. However, due to the safety issues, the U.S. FDA enacted an import ban on certain chemically-synthesized germanium products since 1988.
